St. Andrew

1519-21
Pen and ink and brush over preliminary chalk drawing, grey wash, 21.9 x 14.6 in. (55.6 x 37.1 cm.)
Kunstmuseum Basel, Switzerland

This is a design for a stained glass window. It is unusual in having all four of the saint's attributes in one image: the wild hair, the bifurcated beard, the cross saltire, and the book.
